Lagos Cult Clashes Claim 13

Published

on

Thirteen suspected cultists have been killed in the ongoing clash between members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities in the Ijede Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Nine of the thirteen deceased cultists were said to have been killed by members of rival groups, while the remaining four were allegedly killed by soldiers, who gave them a hot chase after reportedly burning the family house of the Obateru of Egbin in Ijede.

A resident, Bayo Adegbaju, who stated that the frequent cult clashes were creating panic in the community, said two of the victims were pupils of a Junior Secondary School in the area, adding that other pupils had abandoned their studies due to the attack on the school premises.

He said, “In December, a cultist, Saheed, was shot in the mouth by rivals, but he was lucky to escape. After his wound healed, he and his gang had a clash with members of the rival group on Monday, January 20, 2020, and two of the cultists were stabbed in the stomach and chest. The victims were rushed to the health centre in Ijede, where they died the following day.

“In the early hours of Tuesday, some cultists used a machete to kill a rival in his house around the De-John School. I was going to work in the morning when I saw a crowd in front of the deceased’s home. I saw the head with multiple machete cuts and bloodstains all over the wall.

“In the afternoon, two pupils of the Luwasa Junior Secondary School were shot dead on the school premises. The school management had to send all the pupils home for their safety. That same day, around the Etita area in Ijede, another cultist was shot dead.

“Also, around the Ferry Station, Ijede, two cultists were riding a motorcycle when their rivals used a rod to push them down and shot them dead. Whenever the cultists clash, residents usually run helter-skelter, because they use sophisticated weapons. We are not safe in Ijede.”

When our correspondent visited the Luwasa Junior High School to confirm the alleged death of the two pupils, the principal declined to speak, but a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the school did not lose any pupil.

The source, however, said cultists chased a member of a rival group into the school premises and shot him dead around 11 am, while the students were studying in their various classrooms.

According to the source, the cultists took advantage of the fact that the school had no fence to perpetrate the crime.

“No pupil was killed. In Luwasa, Igbe and Ijede areas, cult clashes have been ongoing and are still on as I speak to you. The cultists chased themselves into the school compound and killed their rival. The pupils were around when the killing took place,” the source stated.

Members of staff of the school and officials sent by the state Ministry of Education to monitor the situation in the school were seen on the premises, but there was no pupil in sight when our correspondent visited the school on Wednesday.

When asked why the pupils were not in school, the source said, “What happened on the school premises was an extension of what has been happening in the community for the past three days. As of the time they were evacuating the corpse of the murdered cultist, the police received a call that another person had been killed at Igbe.

“The parents are aware of what is happening; they probably told their children to keep away from school.”

Another resident, Enitan Ogunsanya, said five suspected cult members were killed in the early hours of Wednesday, adding that four of them were fell by soldiers.

“The cultists came for reprisal at a pub in Idito around the family house of the Obateru of Egbin and burnt down the house. So, soldiers were mobilised to catch them, and in the process, four of the cultists were killed, while the others escaped. Later on, another cultist, known simply as Something, was killed in Igbe. All these attacks happened in the night,” Ogunsanya stated.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said ten suspects had been arrested, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had deployed the Special Track Force on Social Miscreants in the community to restore normalcy.

Elkana said, “The trouble has been on since 2017. The cultists were allowed to renounce cultism and stop their attacks on each other so that they could escape prosecution, and since then, there was no attack until recently.

“On January 20, 2020, some of the cultists were relaxing at their meeting point when they got into an argument, which degenerated into a fight and one person was injured.

“So, members of the rival group thought the person had died and launched a counter-attack, which led to all these clashes from January 20. But the police quickly responded, and ten suspects were arrested.

“Those arrested are Ibrahim Jamiu, Abiodun Jimoh, Babajide Adeyemi, Goddey Adewale, Olalekan Adebanjo, Ibrahim Hassan, Yusuf Sangosanya, Oluwafemi Omolaja and Olaide Sodiq.

“The CP has summoned an emergency meeting to resolve the cult clashes in the affected areas. The corpses recovered were those of six suspected cultists and we have no record of any pupil killed.”

My Whatsapp line that ends in ‘6000’ is hacked!-Emma IK AGU

Published

In the last six months, I have been a target of hundreds of online scam bags. Today, a particular individual who said he is the Secretary of the Arewa Journalists group hacked my Wattsapp. He told me at a specific time; they will be holding a meeting. He sent me a code, and since I was multi-tasking, I did so little to do a verification. I began getting calls from family, friends, and fans all over the world. I was assured they knew my account was hacked,
I was added to this group by Abraham Awodi, a well-respected Nigerian Journalist based in Abuja. Abraham Awodi was at one time the correspondence of my now rested Nigerian FM, Abuja bureau. Within minutes my account got hijacked; I called Abraham Awodi only to get his voice mail. I also got in touch with few people in Abuja to block this particular line from sending messages to their groups. One is fortunate to have Ministers, Governors, Music, and movie stars in my contact. Over the years, folks know who I am and know fully well; I spent my time exposing internet criminals.
The attempt by these folks to tarnish my good name, which I spent my life to build, will never succeed. I happen to be a man of high principle who never backs down. Whoever planned this has already murdered his (their) sleep.

Inside America

A strange Inauguration eve: why this night’s so different-AGU writes.

Earlier in the day, I saw the incoming President, Joe Biden, wept openly. I equally saw a woman, a staunch member of Qanon, who said President Biden would be arrested and won’t be sworn in as the President.

Many of us quarreled, fought, and became enemies and passionately supported our candidates. In the next 12 hours or less, a new President will be sworn in. Let's bury the hatchets and be friends again. In politics, they say, there's no permanent friendship but permanent interest.

Washington DC is like a City under a military siege, right at this hour. I was an eye witness on the eve of then-President-elect Obama’s swearing-in ceremony. I got selected to headline the African Inaugural Ball; the day was the 19th of January 2009. I performed to honor the incoming President around 1.a.m Eastern time.

After my performance, the entire crew rode freely amid thousands of folks to Capital Hill, where the swearing-in ceremony would occur. We also visited Baily’s house, where the Obamas stayed on the eve of his swearing-in ceremony. Our next port of call was the White house. I can never forget when a White Secret Service agent told me bluntly not to pass through his ‘yard.’ That night, around 3.a.m, President Bush and his family had their last night in the White House.
Thousands of people camped out at the national mall and folks who kept coming from different directions.

Corona Virus memorial-Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

It was around 4.a.m that I drove back to New York City, leaving my crew behind in Washington D.C. I don’t have a word to describe what I saw as I saw thousands of people smiling, singing, and dancing in the streets. People partied across the United States all night long. Candidate Obama had mesmerized and dazzled a distressed nation with messages of hope. You can see that millions of people hoped that Obama would succeed after the economy took a turn for the worse.

Millions of people had lost their jobs. Companies went out of business.
A vast majority of Americans saw the President-Elect, Barrack Obama, who campaigned with a catchy phrase that says ‘Hope you can believe in,’ put their hopes on him. The man went to work as soon as he got sworn in; there was no drama, no scandal. Obama and Biden worked for the American people, who gave them a mandate. Obama, just like every other mortal out there, is not a perfect man; some of his policies, as controversial as they were, he dug the nation out of a hole. His detractors agreed.
Tonight as the United States people mourn the deaths of over four hundred thousand lives lost due to the coronavirus, Washington D.C is a no-go area. With over twenty thousand members of the national guard in military Kakis, their hands on the long guns, this night is the complete opposite of 2009 or even 2017 when the current President took over. The national guards are dealing with the harsh cold weather too. I don’t know how they do it, but this is hard. Imagine staying outside under this cold condition? Horrible. You can see hundreds of them sleeping on the bare floor. How do they even eat or shower under this condition? I salute these men and women who put their lives in harm’s way for us.

The national Guards, all over the City

I remain grateful that I witnessed history in 2009, by every standard, Kamala Harris’s rise from slum to become the Vice president lect is historic. She was born and raised like an ordinary child out there. She rose from nothing to become somebody. Kamala also went to a regular school like every other poor kid in our neighborhood. The man who selected her ( President- Elect Joe Biden) is also an ordinary American whose parents lived from paycheck to paycheck. Many of us quarreled, fought, and became enemies and passionately supported our candidates. In the next 12 hours or less, a new President will be sworn in. Let’s bury the hatchets and be friends again. In politics, they say, there’s no permanent friendship but permanent interest.

It is an unusual night, surreal, frightful, and unprecedented in so many ways. Historians will never refer to this transition as a peaceful transfer of power. It reminds me of a military take over in Banana Republics. This night in Washington, D.C, looks nothing like an inauguration eve; it is a sad night. Earlier in the day, I saw the incoming President, Joe Biden, wept openly. I equally saw a woman, a staunch member of Qanon, who said President Biden would be arrested and won’t be sworn in as the President. Guys, these are challenging times; please pray for the United States, the land of the impossibilities.

Lil Wayne and Donald Trump

Trump’s final act in office is the pardoning of so many people including rappers. The plan to pardon Young Money boss, Lil Wayne has been put in motion.

Yesterday, the 18th of January, Trump’s administration put in place, article No. 45, as stated by media giant Bloomberg. The news was leaked by an anonymous source in Trump’s cabinet.

Lil Wayne amongst many other rappers, regardless of race, endorsed Trump during his failed 2020 elections, which was well reciprocated by the outgoing President.

The charge emanated from a December of 2019 incident in which Wayne was stopped at the Miami Airport by police who discovered a gold-plated Remington 1911, .45-caliber handgun loaded with six rounds of ammunition, personal use amounts of cocaine, ecstasy, and oxycodone in the rapper’s bag. He was charged with possession of a firearm in November of 2020.
